How do you feel free? hmmm... weird question, I know! Ok... Again: Do you feel free? Why? hmmm... hard still, I know! It is hard even to understand if we feel free! Going deeper: free of what? Ah... That's a very good question! In this world, as we know it, does the life style, regardless the region or culture, allow us to feel free? There are so many duties and responsabilities which require our attention and energy that we simply don't find the time to ask ourselves if we are just following the crowd or doing things our own way. Ah... I think the question gets a little easier now: Do you do things your own way? Would it be considered freedom? hmmm... I'd say so. See? My question is more in the existential field than pragmatic.
When you get up, in the morning, if you can afford the decision about what will the breakfast be, you are free for that! Right? Then, you go to the wardrobe and pick the dress of your choice to go to work, because you can! Free to do so! Yupee! But, the job is not exactly that one you would be the happiest to be driving to, right? hmmm... here lies the philosophical question: are or aren't you free to choose your job? Yeah, I know we can't choose everything in our lives...
I was thinking the other day that we are always pursuing two things that are antagonistic, in many aspects: freedom and to belong, to be part of! If you wanna be free, and do things in a particular way, instead of the ordinary and expected way, it might mean that you can be relegated to the 'not belonging' position. And labeled as weird and strange and funny! Condition, by the way, that can be very liberating if you have the courage to bear it! Since you are considered 'crazy, anyway', whatever unusual attitude will be seen as 'normal' for you. Got it? It might, in the opposite direction, give you more freedom! hehe
But, what I have really been asking myself is about the number of decisions made based on my very own will or on convenience. How much control do I have over my own life? How free am I to do things I want to do? Hmmm... I think it will very very much depend on how deeply engaged I am. The more responsible we are for other people, community, activity... things, the more difficult it will be to make decisions freely, considering only our own desire. But, going the other way round, if we are not engaged to anything and, thus, free to make any move, it might be because we don't truly belong to anywhere, with anyone... and we might even realize how sad and lonely it feels...
The paradox seems to be unsoluble. Maybe, the best we can do is to try to find a balance and engage in matter that are really worthy - to ourselves -, so we won't feel too much the lack of freedom! It won't be an issue anymore. In other words, the decisions will feel so right that we won't even think about it!!
So, I will put energy in engaging myself to matters that will make me feel free! Good luck, Fer! :-)

De que maneira você se sente livre? hmmm... pergunta estranha, eu sei! Ok... de novo: Você se sente livre? Por quê? hmmm... ainda difícil, eu sei! É duro até mesmo de entender se nos sentimos livres! Indo mais fundo um pouco: Livre do quê? Ah... Boa pergunta! No mundo, como o conhecemos, você acha que o estilo de vida, independentemente da região ou cultura, nos permite sermos livres? Há tantas responsabilidades e obrigações que requerem nossa atenção e energia que nós simplesmente não achamos tempo de nos perguntar se estamos somente 'seguindo a boiada' ou fazendo as coisas do nosso jeito. Ah... Parece que a pergunta ficou mais fácil agora: Você faz as coisas do seu jeito? Podemos considerar isso como liberdade? hmmm... Acho que sim, né. Viu só? Minha pergunta é mais existencial do que pragmática.
Quando você se levanta, de manhã, se você pode decidir sobre o que terá pro café da manhã, é porque você é livre para tal! Certo? Daí, vai até o guarda-roupa e escolhe com qual vestido vai trabalhar hoje, porque você pode! É livre pra escolher o que vestir! Yupee! Mas, o emprego não é exatamente aquele que você queria... hmmm... voltemos a filosófica questão: Você é ou não livre pra escolher o seu emprego? É, eu sei que não dá pra escolher tudo nessa vida...
Outro dia, estava pensando que estamos sempre buscando duas coisas que são, em vários aspectos, antagônicas: liberdade e pertencer, fazer parte! Se você quer ser livre e fazer as coisas de uma forma diferente do que se espera, isso pode significar ser relegado à condição de "não pertencente" e rotulado de esquisito, estranho! Condição, que aliás, pode ser libertadora se você tiver coragem de encarar-se como tal! Já que você é considerado 'maluco, de qualquer jeito', qualquer atitude inusitada será vista como 'normal', no seu caso. Entendeu? Ao contrário, pode até ser libertador! hehe
Mas, o que venho realmente me perguntando é sobre quantas decisões são baseadas na minha própria vontade ou em simples conveniência. Quanto controle tenho sobre minha própria vida? O quanto sou livre pra fazer as coisas que quero? Hmmm... Acho que isso depende muitíssimo do quão comprometida eu estou. Quanto mais responsabilidade temos sobre pessoas, comunidade, atividades, enfim... coisas, mais difícil será pra tomar decisões livremente, levando em conta somente o nosso desejo. Mas, por outro lado, se não temos obrigações para com ninguém ou nada e, portanto, livre pra fazer o que bem entendermos, a qualquer hora, pode ser porque, na verdade, não pertencemos, ou não temos ninguém... o que pode ser muito triste e solitário...
O paradoxo parece não ter solução. Talvez, o melhor que podemos fazer é tentar achar o equilíbrio e se comprometer com o que realmente importa - pra nós -, assim, não sentimos tanto a falta de liberdade! Em outras palavras, estaremos tão certos sobre o que deve ser feito que nem nos perguntaremos se queremos ou não! E liberdade, ou falta de, deixará de ser problema!!
Então, gastarei minha energia com assuntos que me façam sentir livre! Boa sorte, Fer! :-)
